Oshibori (wet hand towel) is becoming increasingly popular around the world as Japanese culture and as sanitation. I designed a high-performance Oshibori heating/refrigeration unit to heat or cool the hand towel. I felt that the act of offering Oshibori at the right temperature to guests while controlling the temperature according to the season and the weather was very profound and humble, so I kept in mind the simplicity and modesty, not to make extra objects or put something noisy on the surface. On the other hand, modesty is made up of reliability that works properly. Reion was designed by constructing a sense of solidity and a stable presence in mind to fit the atmosphere like that. The purpose of this machine is so simple and clear, so there is only one dial on the body allowing control of the on/off and the temperature. There are no complex controls that could cause human errors. It is available in two sizes, and stackable. Reion meets demands for the setting location of the restaurant and others and demands the different temperature requirements.
It was a challenging project for a company that didn't have the manufacturing department was going to put out a complex product like the temperature control system. It is also an ambitious product from FSX, a company that is challenging old business practices in the Oshibori industry field, at the same time, a very Japanese product for the Japanese way of hospitality.

日本発祥の文化として、また衛生面においての欲求において徐々に世界に広まりつつおしぼり。そのおしぼりを温めたり冷やしたりするための冷温庫のデザインを行いました。季節や天気に応じて温度のコントロールをしながらお客様へ適温のおしぼりを振舞う行為そのものがとても奥ゆかしく謙虚であると感じ、その行為に合わせて視覚的にノイズにならないように突起物や情報量の抑えたシンプルさ・謙虚さをまずは念頭に置いています。一方で奥ゆかしさというのは実はきちんと働く信頼性があってこそ成り立つものであるので、どっしりと構え安定感のある存在感を意識してデザインを組み立てることで、これらの雰囲気に合うように設計しました。道具としての目的はこの上なく明快で、エラーの原因となる複雑な操作系は排除し、ダイヤルだけでON/OFFや温度調整のコントロールができるようにしています。サイズも2種類用意され更にスタッキング可能。飲食店などの置き場所や、異なった温度に対しての要求にも応えられる仕様になっています。
ものづくりを専業としていない企業が温度コントロールのような複雑な製品を世に送り出していったというとてもチャレンジ精神に溢れたプロジェクトでもあり、おもてなしのために裏方で構える道具として極めて日本的なプロダクトとも言えるでしょう。またおしぼり業界のビジネスにおいても旧態依然とした商習慣に対して挑戦をしているFSX社の意欲作です。
