It was a great honor to announce that Colander and Bowl I designed for Like-it Inc., and Reion designed for FSX Inc. had won the Good Design Award of Japan, 2018. The Good Design Award is an annual award organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion and is given to the best in a wide range of fields such as industrial products, business models, and event activities.
The jury commented for Colander and Bowl, “Rice Washing Colander and Bowl is made of elastic-plastic material that focuses on washing rice effectively. It is not a mesh but a three-dimensional shape like the duckboard, which makes it possible to drain water through the slit of uniformity width. That slits are so beautiful. The rim is thin and completely circular but making the overall shape with this thinness is not an easy task considering the molding process. That's definitely an attitude of the manufacturer and the designer's thoughts. The overlap between the colander and the bowl is also pleasant. It is not only for washing rice but for various types of cooking. Moderately soft materials, textures, proportions, and details, this is an excellent product that is well thought out.”
The jury commented for Reion, “There was almost nothing well-designed products ever. But this design was praised for its simplicity and dignity. The modularized and unified design, and the water basin designed with the usage scenarios in mind, can also contribute to the expansion of the way of use like in offices and nail salons. There were also comments that the form explains the function. The idea of a subscription-based business model was also evaluated.”
